Liga Deportivo Alajuelense, or simply "La Liga" by its fan following, was the first Costa Rican club to win a CONCACAF club championship (1986). Although second to Saprissa's 29 league titles, Alajuelnse is the only Costa Rican team to have won at least one crown in every decade since the domestic professional league was established in 1921. Formed by a group of seven former teammates of a club called Once de Abril (April 11), it was one of seven founding members of the National League. It returns to the Champions League after being upset in the Preliminary Round of the inaugural season by the Puerto Rico Islanders. It's roster includes several members of the Costa Rican national team including defenders Jose Salvatierra, Allen Guevara and Jhonny Acosta.
