Making its fourth CONCACAF Champions League appearance, Municipal is the definition of success in Guatemalan football. No club has won more league titles (29) and the Rojos are the lone Guatemalan squad to win the CONCACAF Champions Cup (1974) and were runners-up in the Copa Interamerica in the same year, the best finish by a Guatemalan squad. The Rojos (Reds) are coached by Javier Delgado, who also made 33 appearances for the Costa Rican national team, including qualifying matches for the 1998 World Cup. He also has coached Alajuelense, Herediano, Puntarenas and Ramonense. Municipal plays its home matches at Estadio Mateo Flores, named after the 1952 winner of the Boston Marathon. The Guatemalan national team also plays its home matches at the 30,000-seat multi-use stadium, which features an eight-lane athletics track. Salvadoran international Eliseo Quintanilla, veteran defender Pablo Melgar, Panamanian goalkeeper Jaime Penedo, Guatemalan internationals Yony Flores, Gustavo Cabrera, Marvin Avila, Gonzalo Romero and Mario Rodriguez lead the squad.
