First established under the name Deportivo La Previsora, the club's current name is derived from the patron saint of the La Chorrera District, Francis of Paola (San Francisco de Paula). The squad is bolstered by Panama international midfielder Ricardo Phillips, who has represented his country more than 50 times and was a member of Panama's team which won the Central American (UNCAF) Nations Cup in Honduras in February. San Francisco is known for a midfield featuring Victor Herrera Piggott, Manuel Torres and Juan Ramon Solis, while Carlos Rivera anchors the backline. San Francisco finished third in the recently completed Clausura but earned its spot in this year's Champions League when it defeated Chorillo FC in the Liga Panamena Futbol Apertura final. San Francisco also qualified for last year's Champions League and reached the Group Stage before being eliminated.
