Thanks to winning the 2011 Clausura title, San Francisco is making its fourth CONCACAF Champions League appearance. In the inaugural tournament, San Francisco beat Guatemalan side Jalapa 5-1 in the Preliminary Round to advance to the Group Stage, where it went winless and finished last in Group B with two points from six matches. Two years ago, San Francisco carried a 2-0 edge into the second leg of a Preliminary Round aggregate series against San Juan Jabloteh, but suffered a 3-0 loss in Trinidad and was eliminated. Last year, it was again eliminated in the Preliminary Round 9-2 on aggregate by Cruz Azul. San Francisco FC was established in 1971 and was a founding member of ANAPROF (Asociacion Nacional Pro Futbol), which became known as Liga Panamena de Futbol in 2009. The club originally was called Club Deportivo La Previsora and played in La Liga Distritorial de Futbol de La Chorrera, and its current name is derived from the patron saint of the La Chorrera District, Francis of Paola. San Francisco is coached by Gary Stempel, who previously coached the Panamanian national team in the 2008 Gold Cup. San Francisco plays in the renovated Estadio Agustin Sanchez, which changed to an artificial surface, increased seating and better lighting in 2008 and now has a capacity of 8,000.
