Thanks to a runner-up finish in the Clausura 2010, San Francisco FC is making its third consecutive CONCACAF Champions League appearance. In the inaugural tournament, San Francisco thrashed Guatemalan side Jalapa 5-1 to advance to the Group Stage, where it went winless and finished last in Group B with two points from six matches. Last year, San Francisco carried a 2-0 edge into the second leg of a Preliminary Round aggregate series against San Juan Jabloteh, but suffered a stunning 3-0 loss in Trinidad and was eliminated. San Francisco FC was established in 1971 and was a founding member of ANAPROF (Asociacion Nacional Pro Futbol), which became known as Liga Panamena de Futbol in 2009. The club originally was called Club Deportivo La Previsora and played in La Liga Distritorial de Futbol de La Chorrera, but its current name is derived from the patron saint of the La Chorrera District, Francis of Paola. Defender Carlos Rivera and midfielder Victor Herrera are regulars on the Panamanian national team, while two of its younger players, 19-year-old forward Amir Waithe and 20-year-old defender Rolando Algandona have each earned recent caps. San Francisco plays in the recently renovated Estadio Agustin Sanchez, which changed to an artificial surface, increased seating and better lighting in 2008.
