Real Espana will play in the CONCACAF Champions League for a second time. In 2009-10, it defeated Liberia Mia from Costa Rica in the Preliminary Round, but failed to advance out of the Group Stage, finishing last in Group D behind Pumas UNAM, Comunicaciones and W Connection. Real Espana made 13 appearances in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, its best finish in 1991 when it lost to Police FC in the semifinals. Real Espana is coached by Mario Zanabria, a former Argentine midfield hero who played for Newell's Old Boys and Boca Juniors. The 2010-11 Apertura title was the club's first title since claiming the Clausura in 2006-07. The Aurinegros feature several of Honduras' better younger players, including goalkeeper Kevin Hernandez and midfielder Edder Delgado - who competed in the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, and Honduran international defender Erick Vallacillo. Real Espana shares 20,000-seat Estadio Francisco Morazan in San Pedro Sula with CD Marathon.
