The oldest club in Mexico, Pachuca is also one of the most successful, having won five league titles, the CONCACAF Champions Cup three times, the Copa Nissan Sudamericana once and the North American SuperLiga once in the past decade. Founded by Cornish immigrant miners working for the Compañía Real del Monte y Pachuca, Pachuca is one of the original members of the Primera División. In 1999 - while under present Mexican national team manager Javier Aguirre, it defeated Atlante in Estadio Azteca to avoid relegation and remained in the first division for two consecutive seasons for the first time in 30 years. In 2006, Tuzos defeated Colo Colo from Chile to win the Copa Sudamericana, becoming the first Mexican team and CONCACAF team to win a CONMEBOL championship. Pachuca, which has been home to such notable players as Alberto Rodriguez, Francisco Gabriel de Anda, Marcelino Bernal, Fausto Pinto and Jared Borgetti, is also the only club team in the world to have continental competition outside of its own confederation.
