Purchased by Costa Rican businessman Mario Sotela at the beginning of the year, the club was given the nickname 'Mia' by its new owner who also owns "Africa Mia" -- a zoo based in Liberia. The club signed a large number of high-profile players over the past year. It was crowned champion of the Costa Rican Primera Division on May 26, defeating Club Sport Herediano 3-0 in the league title game. Liberia Mia includes such veterans Costa Rican national team defender Harold Wallace; striker Jose Cancela; goalkeeper Alvaro Mesen Murillo, who has made 38 appearances for lost Ticos; and winger William 'The Menace' Sunsing, who has played professionally in Greece, Czech Republic and in Major League Soccer.
