Herediano is still stinging over a national championship drought which now extends nearly 16 years after its loss on May 26 to upstart Municipal Liberia Mia. One of Costa Rica's oldest clubs, it was created by the merging of three local sides in 1921. It is considered the nation's most experienced international competitor, despite the more recent success of Saprissa. Herediano's most historic victory came in 1932 when it defeated Argentina's national team 3-1 at Costa Rica's national stadium in La Sabana. The club sports a roster including Andy Herron, who has represented Costa Rica 17 times and scored eight goals; one of the nation's top defensive midfielders in Mauricio Solis, who has over 110 appearances for the Ticos; and Costa Rican international defender Cristian Montero.
