With 23 Honduran championships and a pair of CONCACAF Champions Cup titles, Olimpia is the standard bearer in Honduras. Making its third Champions League appearance, Olimpia became the only Central American team to beat a Mexican squad at Estadio Azteca when it defeated Cruz Azul in 1988 and it is the only Honduran team to beat famed Argentina squad Boca Juniors. Six Olimpia players - goalkeepers: Noel Valladares and Donis Escobar, defender Johnny Palacios and midfielders Ramon Nunez and Danilo Turcios - were part of the first Honduras team to play in the World Cup since 1982. The team is managed by Colombian Carlos Restrepo, who began coaching in his early 20s and has had success with numerous high-profile squads in Colombia and Costa Rica, including Once Caldes, Independiente Medellin, Municipal and Brujas. Olimpia plays at 30,000-seat Estadio Tiburcio Carias Andino, which it shares with Motagua.
