With 23 Honduran championships and a pair of CONCACAF Champions Cup titles in the trophy case, Olimpia is the standard bearers in Honduras. Making its fourth Champions League appearance, Olimpia is the only Central American team to beat a Mexican squad at Estadio Azteca when it defeated Cruz Azul in 1988 and it is the only Honduran team to beat famed Argentina squad Boca Juniors. Goalkeeper Donis Escobar, defenders Johnny Palacios and Oscar Boniek Garcia and midfielder Danilo Turcios were part of the first Honduras team to play in the World Cup since 1982 when it travelled to South Africa in 2010. Olimpia won Group D in last year's Champions League before being eliminated by Saprissa in the quarterfinals on a 3-1 aggregate. Argentine Danilo Tosello, the fifth all-time leading scorer in Liga Nacional de Honduras history -- who won four titles as a player with Olimpia, is the manager and it shares the 35,000-seat Estadio Tiburcio Carias Andino in Tegucigalpa with rival Motagua.
