The oldest club in El Salvador, the team began its existence under the name Tecun Uman but was renamed in honor of Argentine boxer Luis Angel Firpo, who knocked heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey out of the ring in their 1923 bout. Founded by a group of local citizens, It took 66 years for the club to win its first title, beating Cojutepeque FC on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the 1989 final. The team's mascot is a bull, a reference to "El Toro de las Pamapa" or the "The wild Bull of the Pampas" which was Firpo's nickname during his boxing career. The club is known by the nicknames Los Pamperos, Toros and Ultralempinos.
