A rising team on the Guatemalan landscape, Jalapa won the Apertura in 2007 which propelled them into last year's CONCACAF Champions League. On June 14, Jalapa defeated Guatemala powerhouse CSD Municipal 1-0 in the second of the two-leg Clasura final and prevailed 4-1 on aggregate, earning the team a berth in this year's tournament. Jalapa is led by goalkeeper Juan Jose Paredes, whose shutout in the second leg clinched the title; national team defender Gustavo Adolfo Cabrera, who also has played in the Danish Super Liga and Major League Soccer; and Argentine striker Fernando Ezequiel.
