A six-time Salvadoran champion, Isidro Metapan is one of three teams to complete in all five installments of the CONCACAF Champions League, joining the Puerto Rico Islanders and Honduras' Olimpia. Los Caleros are also coming off their most successful campaign in the competition, becoming the first Salvadoran team to reach the quarterfinals where it lost to Pumas UNAM. The crowning moment came in 2007 when Metapan won its first title, beating Luis Angel Firpo in extra time to win the Clausura crown. Founded by Adan Martinez and Professor Jose Castro, the club was first known as Club Deportivo Isidro Menendez, but in 2000, CESSA por el de Metapan FC and Club Deportivo Isidro Menendez merged to form Isidro Metapan. The architect of Metapan's success is Edwin Portillo, who is in his third stint with Los Caleros, who he helped gain promotion to the first division in 2001. After stints at Fuerte San Francisco and Once Lobos, Portillo returned to his hometown team in 2006 where he's had unprecedented success. The squad is led by Salvadoran internationals Alfredo Pacheco and Ramon Sanchez.
