MONTERREY, Mexico - Defender Ricardo Osorio of two-time defending CONCACAF Champions League champion Monterrey will have surgery on his right ankle next week and miss three-to-four months of playing time, the club announced Friday.
The 32-year-old Osorio played 23 Mexican league games last year - and seven more in the Champions League -- until suffering what was diagnosed as a second-degree sprain April 7 against Tigres. He did not play the rest of the season and his ankle has not fully healed, the club said on its website.
Osorio, a Mexican national team regular, also played in seven of Monterrey's 12 games in the run to its first Champions League crown in 2011.
Monterrey will open defense of its latest Champions League title on July 31 at home against Chorrillo of Panama.
