NEW YORK - Olimpia prevailed over Motagua on aggregate and won the Honduran Clausura title to lead three Central American teams into the CONCACAF Champions League over the weekend, while several other teams closed on the remaining berths in the 24-team field.

Olimpia surrendered a 38th-minute goal by Georgie Welcome to lose 1-0 on Saturday, but won 3-2 on aggregate thanks to its victory in last week's home leg of the two-game finals.

It will be the third straight trip to the Champions League for Olimpia, which failed to advance past Arabe Unido in last season's Preliminary Round. Like the inaugural Champions League season, Olimpia finished with more points over both seasons than fellow Honduran qualifier Marathon, and will be placed automatically in the Group Stage.

Olimpia is the fourth team to qualify each year for the Champions League - which starts its third season in July, joining Mexico's Cruz Azul, Marathon and the Puerto Rico Islanders.

Xelaju also qualified by reaching the finals of the Gutemalan Clausura finals and Real Esteli of Nicaragua provisionally has returned with a victory in that country's Clausura finals.

Xelaju joined Municipal in the Champions League from Guatemala, edging Suchitepéquez on penalties 3-1 after a 2-2 draw on Saturday to reach the finals of the Clausura championship. With Municipal already having secured its berth by winning the Apertura, Saturday's result assured Xelaju of its first Champions League berth by having earned more points over both seasons than Apertura runner-up Comunicaciones.

The winner of the two-leg championship Thursday and Saturday between Xelaju and Municipal will claim Guatemala's Group Stage berth with the loser having to enter at the Preliminary Round.

Esteli drew 0-0 with Walter Ferretti at home in the second leg of the Nicaraguan finals on Saturday, earning it the Clausura crown on away goals and the country's Champions League berth on goal difference over both seasons. Esteli's participation, however, is contingent on Nicaragua having an approved stadium that meets Champions League standards.

Saprissa closed on its third straight Champions League appearance with a 4-2 victory at San Carlos in the first leg of the Costa Rican Clausura finals on Sunday. A draw or victory on Saturday in the second leg would send it to the Champions League along with Brujas and with a berth in the Group Stage.

Aguila and Metapan have advanced to the final of the Salvadoran Clausura with Sunday's winner claiming the country's second berth along FAS. Both of El Salvador's qualifiers must start in the Preliminary Round.

In Panama, San Francisco - like Saprissa -- will be looking for a third consecutive berth in the Champions League when it faces Apertura champion Arabe Unido in the Clausura title match on Friday. It needs to win to qualify, otherwise Tauro FC would claim the spot based on having earned more points over both seasons among the runners-up.

Honduras could be awarded a third berth, which would go to Motagua, if a stadium is not approved in either Nicaragua or Belize. Neither country had a facility that met Champions League standards last season.

Weekend results left only seven berths unaccounted for: two in Mexico, one in Canada and places in Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Panama.
